REIMAGINE THE RIVERWALK

(Monroe, MI) –  The Monroe Downtown Development Authority, in conjunction with the City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, invites you to share your ideas for improving the Riverwalk in Downtown Monroe and expanding it eastward through Soldiers and Sailors Park.

A design open house will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, beginning at Serendipitous Vintage, 403 East Front Street.  Weather permitting, this activity will happen at several stations along the Riverwalk.  The hours of the open house are 3:00 pm until 6:30 pm; interested persons are welcome to drop in at any time between the posted hours.

Enhancing the Riverwalk is a key step in the recently completed Downtown Master Plan.  In its current form, the Riverwalk is described as a significant amenity that lacks appeal and has access that is difficult to find.  Recommendations in the Downtown Master Plan include installing art and lighting, adding inviting features, and installing wayfinding.

The Monroe DDA has contracted with the Russell Design to complete a conceptual design plan for Riverwalk improvements that will supply relevant information to support fund solicitation and will guide a phased-in approach to implementation.  A team of volunteers with a specific interest in the Riverwalk has oversight of the preparation of the plan.
